Chisao or “Sticky hands” as it is often called by most Wing Chun practitioners. It is the common underlying training method which is shared amongst all Wing Chun styles. This unifying methodology is also what sets this unique Wing Chun style apart from the main stream Wing Chun styles commonly practiced today.

Snake Crane Wing chun differentiates itself from the main stream on how they practice sticky hand. First, students are trained on sensitivity; more specifically training is focused on how they can react to the attack of his training partner / opponent. This initial stage of training is more of a responsive flow of training, with no set moves and with no specific counters.

This is a significant departure on the other Wing Chun styles on how they train. Snake Crane Wing Chun focuses on the structured of randomness, rather than focusing on set moves, and specific counter attacks.

In Snake Crane Wing Chun, as there are no set moves, nor are there any set counters one would naturally ask why? The reason behind this absence of structure, is very simple “not everybody is built the same way”, nor do we all react the same way. It is up to the person’s own ability on how they will respond to any specific move.

Another difference between Snake Crane Wing Chun and other main stream Wing Chun styles are the different Chisao forms this style of Wing Chun has in its system. Beyond the main Chisao form commonly practiced by all Wing Chun styles out there, which is called luk sao. Snake Crane Wing Chun has the following, huen sao, pon sao and what Snake Crane Wing Chun is known for is the “San Sing Kuen” or three star hands. These variety of Chisao forms, are there to develop the practitioner’s senses beyond “touching the hands, (chisao)” it is from this type of training you “sense the attack or strike” before it even starts. This is what we strive to achieve, that inner sensitivity thereby allowing the practitioner to apply techniques in real life situations, even when they do not touch hands with one another.

One would be able to grasp the completeness of Snake Crane Style of Wing Chun, and appreciate how different the style is from the main stream Wing Chun out there. By studying the intricacies and refinements of this unique Wing Chun style one would have a more complete view of this Kung-Fu system and in the end find a better appreciation of this martial-art and its mysteries.
